Not Your Average Loss-In-Weight System

TOTOWA, NJ -- One of the things that sets us apart from our competitors is the ability to supply a complete system for accurate, high rate loss in weight feeding of the most difficult materials.

Cement and kiln dust have a tendency to pack solidly or aerate, and flush right through the system. This is a problem we've seen and solved thousands of times, so when LaFarge Cement in South Carolina came to us with their application, we had a proven solution.

The materials are stored in (2) 20' diameter and (1) 11' diameter silos and these serve as the primary supply bins for the feeding system. It is critical that material flow on demand and in a controlled condition from the bins to the feeders, so we recommended (2) 10' Bin Activators and (1) 7' Bin Activator.

Immediately below the Bin Activators are the Loss in Weight systems themselves. Whereas the typical LIW system might have a 5 ft³ hopper, these systems required 50 ft³ Live Bottom Bins and 6" HD-2 type Heavy Duty Feeders.

The Live Bottom Bin/Heavy Duty Feeder combination guarantees controlled flow through the system and just on a volumetric basis would provide feed accuracies of +/- 1-2%. But, by mounting the whole assembly on load cells and applying our model 2160 LIW control system, we will achieve accuracies of +/- ½% and give the customer important inventory and system integration capabilities.

This application is simply out of reach of most of the familiar names in the Loss in Weight feeding business, but the kind of thing we can offer with results.
